Also, with Expo 2020 set to start in October, there are hopes for a recovery in the tourism sector over the coming months.

Quarantine-free travel to Phuket

Tourism Board in Thailand aims to allow quarantine-free travel to Phuket which is its prime destination. This is for the first time in more than a year but provided visitors are vaccinated against COVID-19 and that they aren’t coming from high-risk countries. This is after a success in Phuket Sandbox which is a measure taken by the government to vaccinate 100% of the island’s residents first. Currently, it stands at about 60% which is still higher than the entire nation.

However, officials have said that the danger from the virus and its mutations are far from over and therefore appealed to holidaymakers to not see the lifting of the warning as an “invitation to carelessness.
